J.D. Cannon

J.D. Cannon is an associate attorney at Muldowney & Hollingsworth, LLC, where he has practiced since 2023, focusing on landlord-tenant and estate law. He brings clear communication, practical insight, and a calm courtroom presence shaped by diverse real-world experience.

J.D. is originally from Belle Eagle, Tennessee, a small community outside of Memphis. His parents instilled in him compassion for others and the meaning of hard work.

After receiving his associate’s degree in Pre-Law, he worked full time while earning his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Lambuth University. After college, he set off solo with a backpack, traveling through Mexico. He later spent a summer in Brazil training in Muay Thai kickboxing alongside local fighters—an experience that sharpened his discipline and focus.

J.D. later became editor of the State Gazette, one of Northwest Tennessee’s leading newspapers, in continuous publication since 1865. During that time, he served as Chairman of the American Red Cross of Northwest Tennessee and sat on the board of the local historical society, helping preserve oral histories. He co-hosted a PBS television talk show as well, interviewing a wide range of guests.

After earning his J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law, he relocated to New Jersey, where he served as General Manager and In-House Counsel for a local marina. The role strengthened his focus on solving problems and serving clients with clarity.

He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York and is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the New York City Bar Association.

Outside of work, J.D. works out five days a week—motivated partly by discipline and partly by a longstanding bet with a friend. He also enjoys boating, watching depositions and listening to new wave music.
